A few years ago

A few years ago, I was living in a high rise apartment building. I was sitting on my balcony reading a book and enjoying a nice spring day.

I heard sirens coming towards me and noticed an accident at the intersection down the block.

Police, Fire, Ambulance and Tow trucks. Scurrying around. Within 10 minutes, the intersection was cleared and things were back to normal. It was as if it had never happened.

It reminded me of ants.

The Meaning of Life

The Meaning of American Life is to be a good consumer. It's that simple. The American infrastructure and culture support this life style. The American Government defends and depends on the laws and morals which value money more than individuals. It is not respect for human life and dignity that motivates government goodwill, but rather how it will affect the American consumer's ability to consume.

THE long term effects that really matter, concerning hurricane Katrina 2005, are the effects on "the economy".

Around 1 million jobless, according to current best-guesstimates-ish
untold businesses destroyed
inventory losses
oil production and refinery capacity reduced
food exports/imports
affect on Mississippi traffic
All those newly homeless can not be easily assimilated or accommodated once relocated.
etc
why is looting during such an emergency considered so bad? Why do "they" also protect business locations while rescue operations are ongoing?

How will the US government …

Mardi Gras

Mardi Gras 2006 should be a goal. Whatever the state of repairs down south, we should have that celebration. It would be to remember those lost, our own failures in dealing with this catastrophe, and to celebrate life.

OK

This might push me towards a decent post:

About Huricane Katrina in 2005:

1) The Acadians should be doing more to help.

2) The should be playing "New Orleans is Sinking" by the Tragically Hip and use royalties to help the US South

3) The US economy is geared to keeping as many Americans as possible buying stuff.

4) This is going to suck for a large part of the world.

5) Fats Domino (Ain't that a shame : Blueberry Hill) is currently missing.
